Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, the author is a product of his upbringing and environment. Raised aboard a sailboat he learned the value and necessity of hard work early. By age twelve, he was a deckhand aboard commercial fishing vessels catching salmon, dogfish, halibut, shrimp, and crab from the inlets of Puget Sound to the treacherous waters of Southeast Alaska. Much of his formal education was through distance learning programs developed for migrant farmers and fishermen.
